Event description: Sierra Stages opens its 10th Anniversary Season with the musical “A NEW BRAIN” by William Finn and James Lapine, playing from March 1–17, 2018 at the historic Nevada Theatre in Nevada City.
“A NEW BRAIN” is a medical tragedy as seen through the iris of a Looney Tunes short. After a struggling composer collapses into a plate of pasta, he is diagnosed with a brain tumor and is forced to come to terms with his creative ambitions and the people in his life: an overbearing mother, a ruthless kid’s TV show host and a boyfriend who’d “rather be sailing”. The show is energetic, sardonic, and poignant in its exploration of anxiety, self-doubt, and the healing power of art.
“A NEW BRAIN” plays from March 1 through March 17 at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad Street, Nevada City, with performances on Thursdays (March 1 & 15 only), Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM.
Ticket prices for the first two performances on March 1 & 2 (“previews”) are $20. Ticket prices for all other performances, including the official opening night on March 3, are $35 (rows A-H) and $25 (rows J-O). Tickets may be purchased – with no additional charges – online at www.SierraStages.org, by phone at 530.346.3210, and at the door beginning 1 hour before each performance (subject to availability). $15 Student Rush may be purchased at the door (subject to availability) with a valid student ID for students aged 25 and under.
